BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A new polar bear has arrived at The Buffalo Zoo.
3-year-old Sakari was at Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison, Wisconsin until this week.
Sakari arrived just days after the zoo announced Anana the polar bear would leave Buffalo. She’s now in Cincinnati.
“These moves are in the best interest for the polar bear population,” Buffalo Zoo General Curator Malia Somerville said. “Anana, along with daughter Luna, are very
important to the polar bear population and it is essential that we give them the opportunity to preserve their species.”
For now, Sakari is in quarantine, and will eventually be introduced to Luna in the Zoo’s Arctic Edge exhibit.
