Lockport bus driver accused of driving drunk with 32 students on board

LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) — A bus driver is accused of driving drunk in Lockport with 32 students on board.

As Lockport resident Diane Nelson, 58, drove the busload of kids to Allie Brandt Bowling Lanes, the principal of Anna Merritt School called authorities with concerns.

The principal told the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office that the bus driver appeared to be intoxicated when she left.

Deputies interviewed Nelson in the bowling alley’s parking lot after the bus was unloaded, and subsequently arrested her.

Nelson was charged with Leandra’s Law DWI, operating a commercial vehicle while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired by drugs and 32 counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Following arraignment, Nelson was jailed in Niagara County on $15,000 bail.
