Body identified after Lockport fire

LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) — Police say they identified a man whose dead body was found after a fire this morning.

The male has been identified as Jimmy Anderson of 111 Cottage Street. That’s where Lockport Police and Fire Departments responded just before 6:30 this morning for a fire alarm.

Dispatchers told News 4 that firefighters responded to a fire in a second floor hallway.

Crews evacuated the building, but a person who lives there did not come out during the fire. Patrols went in to locate the person in question and that’s when they discovered a deceased male in his apartment, who again, has been identified as Jimmy Anderson. Investigators do not know the cause of his death.

News 4 talked to a neighbor who lives in the same building, who says he was unable to access his home for hours after the fire.

“Fire in the building get out, I got out went to Tim Hortons came back saw that it was all taped up went back came back it’s still taped up,” said Moe of 111 Cottage Street.

This is an active ongoing investigation with still, several unanswered questions.

Lockport Police are requesting to have an autopsy performed by the Erie County Medical Examiners Office to determine Jimmy Anderson’s cause of death. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
