TOWN OF SHERIDAN, N.Y. (WIVB) — A tractor trailer driver was injured after his truck collided with a Norfolk Southern train Saturday evening.

The collision happened near Progress Drive and Werle Road in the Town of Sheridan.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says 30-year-old Jason Siepierski of Cheektowaga was driving the truck and attempting to head south on Werle Road.

The Sheriff’s Office says the roadway is not a designated place for these trucks. That’s when Siepierski’s truck became stuck on the shoulder of the road and the tracks.

The train was unable to stop and hit the truck, tearing the trailer apart and and dragging the front of the truck a distance down the railroad tracks.

Siepierski was able to get out of the truck before being hit by the train. He was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital by Alstar for non-life threatening injuries.

Siepierski was also issued a traffic ticket fos disobeying a traffic control device, and is due back in the Town of Sheridan Court at a later date.
