Local musicians use power of music to help patients heal

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A special group of musicians are using their talents to provide comfort to those facing illnesses.

Sunday marks the first annual “Musician Medics All-Star Jam.”

These local musicians volunteer their time to perform and spend time with patients and their families at area hospitals.

Musicians raised money Sunday and performed live shows. Organizers say they’re providing comfort through the power of music.

“When I play a tune and somebody’s eyes kind of light up, and they might start singing along, it’s a really cool thing for them and for me,” said musician, Doug Yeomans.

“I think it’s about the power of music, to be able to reach out and connect with people in a healing way. Not only with the patients but the staff who have a really difficult job sometimes and the families who need support,” said musician Marty Peters

All of the proceeds raised from today’s event will benefit the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame’s Musician Medics.
