Man killed in Newfane house fire identified

NEWFANE, N.Y. (WIVB) — Niagara County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a morning fire that took the life of a man.

The fire started around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday in an apartment behind a house on West Avenue near Dutton Place. Roads in the area remain closed.

Niagara County Sheriff James Voutour confirmed the death in a tweet around 7 a.m. The victim was identified as 54-year-old James Marsh.

Investigators told News 4’s Ali Ingersoll the apartment didn’t have working smoke detectors.
