Orchard Park native enrolled at Naval Academy dies after fight with leukemia

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WIVB) — An Orchard Park native enrolled at the United States Naval Academy in Maryland has died after fighting leukemia since August.

Midshipman First Class Jason Jablonski, 21, died at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, according to CBS contributors in Baltimore.

“Midshipman Jablonski was well known by fellow Midshipmen for his tremendous optimism and ability to have a positive impact on everyone he met, even in the face of a disease like leukemia,” Naval Academy Commandant Marine Col. Steve Liszewski said, according to contributors.

Jablonski’s condition had become worse during the weekend because of an infection. Contributors say he was surrounded by family and fellow midshipmen at the time of his death.
