Driver dies after vehicle goes off road, bursts into flames

COLDEN, N.Y. (WIVB) — New York State Police were on the scene of a fatal accident in Colden Thursday morning.

Around 6:30 a.m., authorities say a driver lost control of a vehicle at the crest of a hill on Phillips Rd. The vehicle went off the road, overturned onto its roof and burst into flames.

The vehicle’s passenger, Hunter Delia, 18, was pulled out by two Good Samaritans while the car was still on fire, and his life was saved. He is expected to be okay.

The people who helped the passenger tried to rescue the driver too, but could not save him. The driver was identified as 18-year-old Arcade resident Tristan Pleace.

It is not clear who the passenger’s rescuers are, but they drove away after saving him.

According to State Police, speed may have been a factor in the crash.

The road was briefly closed during the morning, but reopened shortly after 10:30 a.m.
