Eichel leads Sabres to 4-3 comeback win over Rangers

Sabres star puts team on his back in third period, scores two goals to secure comeback win

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Jack Eichel has scored 3 goals in 2 games, the Sabres have scored 9 goals as a team since his return and now they’re on a 2-game win streak after handing the New York Rangers a 4-3 loss, the first time New York has lost all season when leading after 2 periods.

Just like everyone predicted, right?

“I don’t know if I anticipated a two-goal-per-game bump [with Eichel’s return],” said Sabres head coach Dan Bylsma. “But that’s the type of player he is.”

Eichel scored two goals in the third period, bringing Buffalo back from a 3-2 deficit to grab just their fourth home win in eleven tries. Eichel’s first goal came on a power play, before collecting his second with a bank shot off the skate of Mats Zuccarello.

“Hockey’s a generous game sometimes,” Eichel said with a smile afterwards. “It was big to get two points against a good team and I think that’s how we need to play at home.”

Buffalo (9-9-5) now hosts Boston on Saturday.
