BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — K-9 officers in Buffalo are a little safer on the job.

An animal rescue group donated first-aid kits to the department. They have everything from bandages to syringes.

News 4 spoke with Officer James Duffy and met his K-9 officer Hydro.

Officer Duffy says Hydro does explosive searches for big events in Buffalo.

He says K-9 officers can be the first in harm’s way during a dangerous situation.

Buffalo has five K-9 officers. The department only had two safety kits before the donation.

“Buddy’s Second Chance Rescue” raised money to buy the department three more.
