Genesee County correction officer facing rape charges

BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Genesee County correction officer is charged with third degree rape after allegedly having sex with an inmate.

Officers say 36-year-old Michael E. Glow of Batavia had sexual relations with a female inmate he supervised at the Genesee County Jail.

While the relations were allegedly consensual, New York State law maintains a person is deemed incapable of giving consent when he or she is committed to the care and custody of a local correctional facility and the actor is an employee of the local correctional facility.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office immediately terminated Glow and additional charges are pending. Glow was arraigned in Batavia City Court and released under supervision.
