BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — On Thursday, Ciminelli Real Estate Corporation hosted a public information session with project partner Cannon Design related to a planned mixed-use development at 201 Ellicott St.
“Great community spaces are at the heart of this project, and because of that, we feel it’s imperative to engage the community early on and hear their feedback regarding our proposed development plans,” Denise Juron-Borgese, Vice President of Development and Planning, Ciminelli Real Estate Corporation, said. “With over half the site devoted to major public amenities, we believe our concept will contribute to the vibrancy of downtown Buffalo and be a place where Western New Yorkers gather for years to come.”
The project would include space for retail, offices, 200 residences, parking and more. Included in the retail space would be a proposed 12,000 to 15,000 square foot Orchard Fresh grocery store — a concept by Tops Markets.
In addition to this, a “spacious, public green” called “Upper Terrace Park” was proposed for the southeast corner of Ellicott and Clinton Streets. Ellicott, Oak and Clinton Streets could also get improvements to make them friendlier to bicyclists and pedestrians.
“In addition, the 60,000 square-foot elevated plaza, Upper Terrace Park, will encourage a variety of activities which will be supported by partnerships with our neighbors, such as the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library. This destination is easily accessible to all existing neighborhoods and those in outlying urban areas. It is really important for us to work with surrounding institutions so that 201 Ellicott St. will have the greatest possible impact on the community once complete,” Juron-Borgese said.
