Christmas comes early for local families in need

Santa came early for hundreds of children in Buffalo. On Saturday kids unwrapped presents at the Belle Center on the west side.

This is the 18th year of Boxes of Love.

The Buffalo Dream Center collects food and toys and then gives them to children who wouldn’t get a Christmas otherwise.

When the endeavor started more than a decade ago they helped about 200 kids. This year they expect to serve more than 3,000 families.

“It’s a big operation but it’s always really about the individual. The personal stories of like single moms that have come to me after an event like this and they’re crying, telling me this is all my kid is going to get this Christmas I don’t have anything this year and how much it means to them,” said Pastor Erie Johns of the Buffalo Dream Center.

Pastor Eric Johns says they still have more than 2,000 families to help this year and they are now out of toys
