Son accused of killing his father in Cheektowaga

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — 31-year-old SirWilliam Hardy is charged with Murder in the Second Degree, after Cheektowaga Police say he fatally shot his father Monday night.

The incident occurred at Hardy’s home on Whitney Place in Cheektowaga. Investigators say the father, 54-year-old William Hardy, was visiting from California.

Hardy was shot in the back, according to sources.

SirWilliam Hardy, who is in a wheelchair, was paralyzed in a motorcycle accident in 2010, while he was living in Buffalo. He collided with a car.

He is currently in custody.

Assistant Chief James Speyer with the Cheektowaga Police Department tells News 4 investigators are working to determine what led up to the shooting.

“We’re still working on gathering evidence, talking to people, talking to whoever we know that’s part of the family that we can get together and get some information to find out exactly what happened. Or why it happened even. We don’t know why it happened,” Speyer says.

Hardy is not cooperating with police.

Investigators say a long gun was used to kill William Hardy, but aren’t sure who the gun belongs to.

William Hardy was deceased when police arrived on scene, Speyer says.

Hardy is a graduate of Bennett High School who had only been in the home for a couple of years, according to neighbors.

The home was up for sale for $400,000, but the listing was removed Wednesday.

During a conference on Tuesday, Speyer, said of the shooting, “We believe this was intentional.”

Due to Hardy being in a wheelchair, he’ll be transferred to ECMC under the custody of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office.

Hardy will be in court Thursday morning.
