Following evacuation, “suspicious items” found at West Seneca Home Depot determined not a threat

WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB) – A “suspicious item” found in the Home Depot at  1881 Ridge Road caused the store to be briefly evacuated.

An employee of the store found items left in a manner, and in an area of the store, that they determined to be suspicious.

West Seneca Police responded to the scene, later calling the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad as Home Depot management evacuated the store.

The ESCO Bomb Squad responded, investigated the scene, and concluded that the items were not an immediate threat.

ESCO secured the items and brought them back to their facility where an investigation will continue, with West Seneca Police detectives also investigating.

“The West Seneca Police Department will prosecute to the fullest extent if anything is found to be nefarious after investigation,” a statement from West Seneca Police said.

The police department also offered thanks to the employee who reported the incident, encouraging citizens to remain vigilant, and “if you see something, say something”.
