NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) – New York State Parks Police have recovered a body from Whirlpool State Park.
The body was taken to the Erie County Medical Examiner’s office.
Parks Police received a call from a hiker reporting a body floating in the rapids of the Lower Niagara River just above the Whirlpool in Niagara Falls around 11 a.m. Friday.
The Park Police Swift Water Rescue Team and Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to the Niagara Gorge and located the body in the rapids.
The rescue team secured the body and it was brought to shore, hoisted out of the gorge by Niagara Falls Fire.
The New York State Park Police Detective Bureau is continuing to investigate.
