AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — A battle between developers and the Town of Amherst that lasted for years has taken a turn.
The town is still trying to figure out what to do with the former Westwood Country Club.
Mensch Capital Partners bought the site in 2014.
They want to turn it into a mix of living, shopping and open green space.
Monday night, the town board voted to hire a lawyer as they consider their next step in the process.
That has developers worried about a town takeover.
Andrew Shaveel, who is with Capital Partners, LLC, said “It makes no sense how they can find public benefit in seizing or having to buy a contaminated brownfield, and then having to have the expense of cleaning up that brownfield and really miss the opportunity of the economic development and new tax base that would be created.”
Developers say there is no pending litigation related to the former country club.
