GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) — An accident on the North Grand Island Bridge was causing major delays Friday morning.

The scene, on the southbound lanes, involved six vehicles in a “chain reaction” collision that happened around 7:30 a.m.

The I-190 southbound was closed off beyond the Buffalo Ave. exit due to the accident.

The Grand Island Fire Company thinks slippery road conditions may have contributed to the crash.

51-year-old Leonard Lingski, of Niagara Falls, was hospitalized. Eight other people were evaluated, but declined hospital treatment.

Traffic flow started to improve once the accident scene was cleared up around 8:15 a.m.
