BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The trailer for a film shot all over Erie and Niagara counties debuted on Thursday.
Johnny Gruesome, which was written and directed by Gregory Lamberson, gained 12,000 views on YouTube in less than a day. Lamberson says that is more than any other film produced in western New York.
The movie, which was shot in Akron, Buffalo, Cheektowaga, Clarence, Lancaster and Niagara Falls, is based on an award-winning novel by Lamberson.
“Johnny Gruesome tells the story of Johnny Grissom, a rebellious high school student who is murdered while on a drunken joyride. After his friends conspire to make his death appear accidental, Johnny rises from the grave to exact revenge as a supernatural creature,” a news release from Lamberson said.
60 local people were employed to work on the movie, which stars Anthony De La Torre in the title role.
The theme song to the movie, “Dyin’ Tonight,” is also connected to Buffalo. It was co-written by Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls.
It is not clear when the movie will be released. Watch the trailer below:
