Mother of six killed in hit and run accident on East Side- suspect still at large

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Buffalo Police are investigating a hit and run crash that left one person dead Thursday night.

It happened at East Ferry and Grider Street just after 10 p.m.

Initially, Buffalo Police tweeted that they were responding to an “apparent serious hit and run accident”. Just before 3:30 a.m. Friday, police confirmed Buffalo resident Ramona Sanders, 40, had died.

The vehicle appears to be a light-colored, four-door grey SUV crossover.  Police have little to go by, other than this grainy picture, taken from an equally grainy video camera, affected by the darkness and the speed the vehicle was traveling.

The vehicle didn’t appear to slow, after it hit Saunders near the intersection of Donovan and E. Ferry, and left her lying in the street near Grider Street about a block away.

A vigil will be held for Sanders at 7pm on Sunday July 9 at the corner of Ferry & Donovan.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Buffalo Police at 847-2255.

This is the second hit-and-run crash on the East Side this week.

A 7-year-old boy was left in critical condition after he was hit by a car Tuesday night on Loring Avenue near Shelbourne Place, about two miles away from where the 40 year old woman was hit Thursday night. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
