Chautauqua County man rescued after canoe capsized

CASSADAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Chautauqua County man was rescued from Cassadaga Creek on Wednesday afternoon.

After Cassadaga resident Raymond Jordan Jr., 66, had not been heard from since 3 p.m. that day, crews from Cassadaga Fire and Chautauqua County Emergency Services went to the scene.

Jordan had gone out on Cassadaga Lake, in a canoe, earlier that day.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office says Jordan’s canoe capsized when he encountered a beaver dam.

Around 6 p.m., after deploying kayaks, crews found Jordan on Cassadaga Creek and helped him get back to shore.

He was not injured.
