Teens make prom dresses entirely from duct tape for scholarship contest

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WIVB) — Two teens in Chattanooga, Tenn., are among the top ten finalists to share the $20,000 prize in the 17th annual Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest.

Their product may surprise you; They made prom dresses entirely out of duct tape.

Mary Ann Ebiefung did not do so well a year ago, but she came back this year with a partner — her friend, Molly.

The two took turns working on the dresses, decorating while trying them on.

She says she learned you need to keep going to be successful.

“You have to mold it to like, fit their figure first, then you kind of have the mold and then you can start adding other things to it, and like, the skirts and the appliqués and all that,” Ebiefung said.

The project has taught Mary Ann’s mom some lessons too.

After being skeptical at first, she says when her daughter wants to do something, she’ll be happy to encourage her.
