Prelude To Drums Along The Waterfront

As a prelude to the August 6th Drums Along the Waterfront-Tour of Champions competition taking place at New Era Field, the Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps from San Antonio, TX made a promotional tour stop in Gowanda on July 6th. Arriving from a competition in Boston, MA, the Crossmen utilized Gowanda Central School’s facilities. The culmination of their 10 hour rehearsal day was a full run through of their 2017 production for the community in appreciation for being such gracious hosts to the corps.

The day long rehearsal was free and open to the public. Being instructed by some of the top music educators in the country, the Crossmen’s visit provided a great educational opportunity as staff and performing members answered questions from those in attendance.

With musical-athlete membership 150 strong, the Crossmen compete in Drum Corps International’s (DCI) World Class level, which is considered Marching Music’s Major League. The corps finished in 10th place in last year’s DCI World Championships held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN. Founded in 1974, the Crossmen are a 501 (c)(3) education and youth development organization assisting young people in becoming outstanding individuals through music and the performing arts.

The top eight drum corps in the world will be competing in the 20th anniversary edition of Drums Along the Waterfront-Tour of Champions, August 6th 7:00 PM at New Era Field, Orchard Park, NY. With 41 world titles among the eight competing corps, included in the field are the reigning world champion Bluecoats (Canton, OH) and the “New York Yankees” of the activity, the 17x world champion Blue Devils (Concord, CA).
