Ciminelli Real Estate claims to have been blindsided in lost contract for hospital campus

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — One of western New York’s biggest developers claims it was blindsided.

Executives with Ciminelli Real Estate say they realized they lost the contract for the soon to be vacant Women & Children’s Hospital campus when they read it in a newspaper.

Thursday, Kaleida Health announced it will start working with rival developers Sinatra and Company, and Ellicott Development.

Kaleida said it could not come to terms with Ciminelli’s development team.

A spokesperson from Ciminelli told us they learned of the decision in The Buffalo News.

They said they were working with Kaleida in good faith to work out a contract, and are surprised and disappointed by the decision. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
