Grand Island studio hosts cat yoga

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) — A studio on Grand Island lets you get into a downward facing dog, with a kitten by your side.

The Soma Cura Wellness Center hosted a “cat yoga” session on Friday.

The owners of the studio are big cat lovers. They are working with local animal shelters to give people and cats a unique experience.

Yoga instructor Joshua Zimmerman said “Cats are innately spiritual. They connect with the frequencies of relaxation, and they really enjoy the meditative experience. So, going through a yoga flow, as we become more relaxed, the cats love that interaction.”

The studio held another cat yoga session on Sunday afternoon.

Donations went to a participating animal shelter, so they can find loving homes for animals like these. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
