Jamestown woman charged with DWI with unrestrained child in car


JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WIVB) – A Jamestown woman was charged with Leandra’s Law DWI early Monday morning on Lakeview Avenue.

According to police reports, Jamestown Police initiated a traffic stop in front of Lakeview Avenue residence around 4:30 a.m. Monday for a vehicle with a loud muffler.

While investigating, police determined that the driver, 31-year-old Vanessa Maldonado, was operating the vehicle while intoxicated. A six-year-old child was in the car at the time of the stop.

Maldonado was also found to be in possession of cocaine.

She was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), first degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, no/inadequate muffler, uninspected vehicle, unrestrained back seat passenger aged 4 to 6, endangering the welfare of a child, and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Child Protective Services was notified of this incident. Maldonado is currently awaiting arraignment in Jamestown City Jail.
