NEW YORK STATE (WIVB) – Between May 29 and July 16 this year, there have been nine incidents involving boats or jet skis that ignored the warning buoys and signage located in the Upper Niagara River, which is a federally restricted exclusionary zone above Niagara Falls, New York State Parks Police said.
Operating in the exclusionary zone is prohibited. Violators will face charges for entering this restricted area, either by State or Federal authorities, a press release from the New York State Parks Police said Friday.
“Boat and jet ski operators are responsible for knowing the area that they are operating in, being aware of natural and man-made hazards, and reviewing navigation charts prior to entering an area that they are unfamiliar,” the statement said.
