Buffalo couple shares engagement story at Sisters of Charity Hospital

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – As more millennials are using phone apps to find love, A local couple says they found true love in an unexpected place.

Elizabeth Janek , is a NICU nurse and Dr. Jacob Cukierski is a Family Medicine Physician at Sisters of Charity Hospital.

Describing Cukierski, Janek said, “He’s just so sweet, so genuine when you talk to him.”

He said, “Every time I see her, it’s constant smile. So that’s always nice to come home to.”

They met Fourth of July weekend, two years ago, working the night shift. She said, “I was working nights, and I had seen him around. We kind of interacted a little, but we really met that day.”

Another work colleague first introduced them. “She said, “you guys are so cute, you should just get married the first day we ever met. And he goes, “you know, there is a chapel downstairs..” and I almost died!” Said Janek.

Two years later, that’s what gave Jacob the unique idea on how to propose to Elizabeth.

She said, “I had no idea i really had no clue!”

The proposal all started with Jacob leaving Elizabeth a note on the NICU floor. “When I realized it was from him, I got really emotional.”

It led her to the residents floor, a place they often had lunch. “He had 24 roses on the table, one for each month we had known each other. There was a note on the table that said, “I’m going to take you to a place where I’ve surprised you before.”

Jacob lefts notes all around the hospital, eventually leading her to the chapel,  to where it all began. He said, “And that’s how my last clue ended,it was the first day I had said that, and she knew to head down to the chapel. At that point, I was trying not to get too emotional, you want to ask the question you don’t want to kind of stand there. She said, yes and the rest is history!”

But they say, their story is just beginning, and are so thankful they met in such an unexpected place.
