For close to 30 years, WIVB-TV has been a major supporter of the local chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Multiple Sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system that affects more than 3,400 people in the Greater Buffalo area. MS strikes people in Western New York at a rate that is twice as high as the national average and no one is quite sure why. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. While WNY is considered a ‘hotspot’ for the disease, it is also home to pioneering researchers who have helped develop leading treatments for MS.
WIVB-TV has partnered with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society on several major fundraising initiatives over the years including “Help Sack MS,” “Ted(Washington) Tackles MS,” the “MS Walk,” “Dinner of Champions” and currently “Team Up 4 MS,” “Walk MS,” and the “Champions for MS Luncheon.” Money raised goes to support MS research and programs and equipment for people with MS in Western New York.
